Hurricane Rho

Hurricane ρ has been brewing around Washington for quite some time now. The eye seems to be just to the southwest of GOP headquarters. The storm, aptly named with the Greek equivelant to the letter "R", threatens many of the felon Republicans that have been stealing our money for the last five years. Republican corruption is so dank and putrid right now, and the political firestorm is just getting started. There are too many scandals to even name. Here is a video from MSNBC of just a few of the Republican scandals that are beginning to surface. And keep your eye open. The truth > lies® Great Republican Scandal ProjectTM is still coming, although it has been delayed a week or two due to school work and the Thanksgiving holiday. But I promise I will summarize in detail just what is actually happening to this country, and why I am so pissed off and at the same time worried for our future.

Happy Thanksgiving from truth > lies!

I hope you are all having fun rubbing the Bush Misadministration's woes in the faces of your Fox News watching relatives! I know I am! Okay, but seriously, have fun with your families! Don't let politics trump your connections to your loved ones!

Bush confused about war, door

Obviously Bush cannot contemplate the complexities of war, nor could he calculate crucial elements of his shoot-from-the-hip military action that has killed hundreds of thousands. Apparently, the war game is too complex for a president like Bush. Defeated in war, Bush has met his new nemisis: a door. Yes, that's right, the rudimentary device known for thousands of years by humanity as a "door" has confused this boy king. Ducking tough questions from reporters, Bush tries to exit the press room in China, only to find out the door is locked. An aide shows him to another door. I am speechless. The BBC story is here.

GO RUSS!!: Filibuster the PATRIOT Act by Reading the Bill of Rights!!

Cross-posted on Daily Kos Russ Feingold apparently is ready to filibuster the renewal of the PATRIOT Act.  What will he read during the filibuster?  The Bill of Rights!

Oh, Russ, my heart beats swiftly!

From the New York Times:

"This is worth the fight," Senator Russell D. Feingold, a Wisconsin Democrat who serves on the Judiciary Committee, said in an interview.

"I've cleared my schedule right up to Thanksgiving," Mr. Feingold said, adding that he was making plans to read aloud from the Bill of Rights as part of a filibuster if necessary.

You just can't get any better than this guy right now!

Contact your Senator and tell them to stand with Russ Feingold!!!

Russ Feingold: Bush's Pre-War Claims "Propaganda"

My dear Senator Russ Feingold (I say that because I am still registered to vote in Wisconsin) has been 100% consistent in his questioning of the Bush Administration's idiotic and misguided policies. Here is a video clip of Russ on Hardball tonight. Russ and Chris Matthews discuss the debate of pulling troops out from Iraq. Russ was the only Senator to vote against the USA PATRIOT Act, and also voted against the Iraq War Resolution. Russ and Chris also discuss the flawed foreign policy of trying to overthrow governments simply because we don't like them. Watch the clip!!

RAW STORY: "National Security Adviser was Woodward's source, attorneys say"

BREAKING FROM RAW STORY: "National Security Adviser was Woodward's source, attorneys say"

Sources have identified Stephen Hadley as purportedly the original leaker of the identity of Valerie Plame.

National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley was the senior administration official who told Washington Post Assistant Managing Editor Bob Woodward that Valerie Plame Wilson was a covert CIA officer, attorneys close to the investigation and intelligence officials tell RAW STORY.

Testifying under oath Monday to Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, Woodward recounted a casual conversation he had with Hadley, these sources say. Hadley did not return a call seeking comment.

The Bush Presidency is falling apart.  I laughed when a week or so Tom Daschle declared the Bush Presidency, "essentially over."  I laughed partly because of the irony of the fact that our recently ousted Senate leader is sitting on a talk show declaring the President's tenure over.  I laughed partly because I wanted it to be true.  But the truth is, Bush's approval ratings weren't THAT low, and there was certainly a chance for a rebound.

Now, however, I am beginning to believe it really is.  The problems keep mounting for the Bush cabal.  They are being attacked on so many fronts now, that their propaganda spin can't keep up.  This latest news about Woodward is no different.  But the question is, when will they throw in the towel?  When will they decide that this crew that is running the country is more damaging to the Republican party than it can endure?

San Francisco Calls For the Firing of Bill O'Reilly

The city of San Francisco has called for Bill O'Reilly to be fired from his commentator job at Fox News and his Westwood One radio show dropped. If you want video analysis of this, Keith Olbermann has a great clip here. O'Reilly has been out of control for a LONG time, and must be sanctioned. I have already filed a complaint with the FCC, and encourage you to do so as well. The FCC complaint form is here. Be sure to note the time and radio station O'Reilly's program is on in your area. The date of the offensive remarks was November 8th.

Stay Tuned In the Following Days: The truth > lies® Great Republican Scandal Project is Coming!

Within the next week or so, I will attempt to compose a both simple and complex explanation of the top five or so Republican scandals that are dangerous for this country, and will link all five of them to top Republican officials, including Bush and Cheney themselves. The scope of the corruption of the Republican party is alarming, and my hope is to put in perspective how important a Democratic victory in 2006 will be for this country. This country truly is being ruled by a bunch of out-of-control frat boys, mobsters, and conjurers all with one common thread uniting them all: Greed. There are three distinct factions running this country:

  1. The PNAC - The Project For a New American Century - A group of Neoconservative policymakers (including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Jeb Bush and Paul Wolfowitz) on a very serious quest for world domination. They were nice enough to publish many documents proving this, as well as a Statement of Principles which they all signed.
  2. The George W. Bush crew - Led by Karl Rove, this crew is more responsible for the political aspect of power, but has been dubiously dipping its nose in policymaking for the purpose of winning elections alone.
  3. The Abramoff-Reed-DeLay crew - Also includes Grover Norquist (who along with Ralph Reed and Jack Abramoff were former leaders of the College Republicans together in the 80's). This group seems to be directly linked to Christian fundamentalist fundraising and propaganda pushing. This group has been taking care of getting the right-wing agenda through Congress.
In the following days, the scandals I illustrate will give a more concrete picture of how these people operate and carry on business. I have to warn you that it paints a very depressing picture of who is actually in charge of this country. But the bastards are starting to crack. A good number of these people are either under investigation or already indicted, you just haven't heard about it....yet. Check back in a couple of days!

Bill O'Reilly needs the SINCLAIR TREATMENT after ENCOURAGING terrorist attack on San Francisco

It worked for Sinclair.... Now it must work regarding Bill O'Reilly. In response to San Francisco banning military recruiters on college campuses, O'Reilly invites a terrorist attack on the California coastal city. Bill, we already know you are a sexual deviant, what with your love for phone sex and the interplay between falafels, loofahs, and fantasies about female co-workers. But encouraging terror attacks on cities of the United States? O'Reilly has gone on for far too long, spewing hatred, lies, and propaganda at an alarming pace. This guy shouldn't even have a job, much less have a national radio show. WE NEED TO TAKE OUT HIS REVENUE BASE. ATTACK THE ADVERTISERS!!! There is a campaign that has already started at Daily Kos. E-mail the advertisers. Tell them politely you will not tolerate them supporting his third-rate propaganda again. From the diary at Kos:

According to his website, his corporate sponsors are: Equifax Life Quotes, Inc. EmigrantDirect.com Tempur-Pedic Equifax is one of the "Big Three" credit reporting agencies. I sent an email to their Media Relations contact, David Rubinger [david.rubinger at equifax.com]. Life Quotes, Inc. appears to be part of Quotesmith.com, Inc., which runs www.insure.com, a "comprehensive online customer insurance information service that caters to the needs of self-directed insurance shoppers." The two contacts that I sent an email to are the Vice President of Sales, Brian Gibson [brian at lifequotes.com], and the Executive Vice President and COO, William V. Thomas [bthoms at insure.com]. EmigrantDirect.com is a subsidiary of Emigrants Savings Bank. I could not find any contact information other than their main helpdesk [emigrantdirect at emigrant.com] Tempur-Pedic is the miracle NASA mattress people. I sent my email to them at [marketing at tempurpedic.com]
So there you have it. The Kossacks are posting the letters they have already wrote as motivation. Here is mine, short & brief:
Dear Bill O'Reilly Sponsor, I understand that your business is participating in a perfectly legitimate practice of advertising to consumers. However, it is also (although unwittingly) funding hate speech such as that mouthed by veritable lunatic Bill O'Reilly. While I understand that advertising is essential to the survival of your business, it may be time to consider what kind of hate speech you are linking your product to. O'Reilly, on his latest show, encouraged terrorists such as Osama bin-Laden to attack the city of San Francisco. This is not an isolated incident. O'Reilly peddles slander, attacks, and lies by the minute day after day. I kindly ask you to reconsider your sponsorship of his hate speech. Best regards, XXXXXXXXXXX
Please get this campaign started. Also, those of you with websites and blogs, feel free to organize a website to track O'Reilly's sponsors. If anyone knows the Stop Sinclair people, let them know. They did such a good job with sinclair, and they could do the same coordinating a campaign to end O'Reilly's crusade of lies.

The Strategy of the Obtuse Right: Do Not Debate. Only Slander or Cry "Victim!!"

Local Republican: "Waaaaaahhhhhh!!!! I want my mommy!!" I am beginning to think that these right-wingers at Marquette started this paper simply for the sake of creating one gigantic circle jerk of self pity and victimization. This proves my point that this move is more about provoking someone, and less about starting an actual paper. More attacks from the "angry left," he says. I'll tell you what's angry. This. Weed through this site and see the angry conservatives complain that we can't use a nuclear bomb to nuke Iraq, how we should line up people with rifles to shoot anyone crossing the border by Mexico, and how all Democrats need to be hung in public and spit on. Do I care what they say about me? I don't give a damn, because I am not a grown man who cries like a baby and has a victimhood complex who is too cowardly to allow comments on his own blog. Talk about censoring dissent. At least Mr. McAdams could have tried to debate my points. But no. He cherry picks some statements I and my friends made to make conservatives look like victims, and then he cries. He ignores the point of my post: The desperate yet blatant attempt of the Warrior EIC to baselessly attack the Journal-Sentinel. So, let me ask you, Mr. McAdams...was that not the most pathetic attempt to create a story out of nothing you have ever seen? I'd like to see you actually defend the substance of Sroka's argument. You can't, though, because even you have to be admitting to yourself how ridiculous and trivial it was. Fox News is state sponsored propaganda. Come on, Mr. McAdams. You KNOW who makes their headlines. The White House mails them a list of talking points every day. But this is old news for anyone who follows politics, right or left. The Democrats don't have their own media news network. You can't deny that. How is Fox different from Pravda in the old USSR? Both have governments telling them exactly what to say. You claim that the media is liberal, but what "liberal" media outlet plays host to ad hominem attacks by the minute to anyone left of Mao Zedong? What media outlet ONLY plays host to commentary, and not actually news stories? How can you say that the mainstream media is liberal when they cheerled the war in Iraq when it clearly should have been questioned? You're not one of those delusional Republicans that thinks we are winning over there, are you? Seriously, dude, it's fuck or walk. If you have something to say, come and debate me on my blog, since you censor debate on your own. Otherwise, stop crying and whining about liberal "anger" and "attacks." It's not an attack, it's just a passionate debate. What, are you scared? You seem to be. You guys are so glad we are at war, yet when it comes for you chickenhawk cheerleaders to fight, you tuck your chin into mommy's bosom and cower.

Pravda Junior: Marquette College Republicans Mimic State Sponsored Media

A new reactionary Republican propaganda outlet, The Warrior, has been created by a cabal of right-wing students at the Marquette University campus. Complete with faux victim complexes already, their apparent plan is to mimic the tactics of Fox News. Despite Republicans being in control of pretty much the whole government and media, these college students feel victimized by the liberals that are hurting them oh so bad. Initially funded by the Leadership Institute (the only thing they lead in is creating state supporting propaganda), The Warrior's aim is to react to their own fantasized perception of liberal bias in the normal Marquette paper, the Marquette Tribune. A comical piece shows just how deluded they are in this weak rag on the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Read it and laugh. Lacking merit and self-respect, Editor-in-Chief Diana Sroka engages in a diatribe so trivial, one must conclude that her objective is simply to trash the Journal-Sentinel any way she can. The ridiculousness of this article prompted the chief editor of truth > lies to fire off a rapid response, alerting Sroka to her own self-delusions in the hope of exorcising her soul from the grips of extreme conservative propaganda. The rapid response e-mail can be seen below:

Your story criticizing the Journal-Sentinel is hilarious. While point number one may be accurate (but is hardly relevant), points two and three are ridiculous. In point two, you criticize the Journal for getting information from an unreliable source: your own business manager. Oh lord. I can't believe you even mentioned that. Point three....hahaha. Although you may not mention in your paper that you are backers of the Republican party, it is pretty obvious from your statements on other blogs. You don't refute the Journal's statement, you divert attention to the fact that your paper doesn't say implicitly that it is a Republican paper. But are you almost unanimously Republicans? Only you know the truth. A truth-teller would have said, "Here is evidence that we have as many liberal viewpoints as conservative ones on our staff." A liar would have said, "The Warrior does not state in any mission statement or letter from the editor any affiliation to a particular political party." So just because you don't admit to something means it is not true? I see you have learned a lot from I. Lewis Libby, George Bush, and Dick Cheney. You must ask yourself what you intend to do in this paper. Are you really trying to inform people of news, or are you trying to mislead people with slanted coverage. While your printed words (or lack thereof) say one thing, your actions are very thinly veiled. So I ask in closing: How long are you and your staff going to continue to embarrass yourself with this transparent charade of untruth you are putting on? The first step toward answering that question accurately is to be honest with yourself.
Hopefully, Sroka will get the message.

Abramoff-Scanlon Memo Reveals Secret Republican Strategy...Disses Evangelicals

Via BigBearJohn of DU, I have come upon this article from Salon.  It quotes a memo obtained in the investigation of Scanlon's invlovment in taking money from Indian gaming casinos.

A stunning excerpt:

In plain terms, Scanlon confessed the source code of recent Republican electoral victories: target religious conservatives, distract everyone else, and then railroad through complex initiatives.

"The wackos get their information through the Christian right, Christian radio, mail, the internet and telephone trees," Scanlon wrote in the memo, which was read into the public record at a hearing of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. "Simply put, we want to bring out the wackos to vote against something and make sure the rest of the public lets the whole thing slip past them." The brilliance of this strategy was twofold: Not only would most voters not know about an initiative to protect Coushatta gambling revenues, but religious "wackos" could be tricked into supporting gambling at the Coushatta casino even as they thought they were opposing it.

Say what?  Do the Christian conservatives know you think they are "wackos?"  What would they think about this memo?

This sounds all too much like the attitude of the greater conservative movement in this country.  They will placate any group they can.  And they will distract the rest of us.  The war on terror is the number one distraction.  Iraq is one, too.

But to actually have a memo laying this all out in words is almost too good to be true.

UPDATE: The original PDF file straight from the court is here!!! Please look at page 119!

UPDATE 2!!: Check out page 120...

Christian Radio

Most likely we will need to create a broad buzz among our supporters, and a quick way to do this is by advertising on Christian Radio. We will produce and air at least two ads that give biblical reasons why Pinnacle should be blocked and the tracks shut down. These will run at the appropriate times and exclusively on Christian Radio.

Cost $200,000.00

Oh, okay. Now you are targeting Christian Radio "wackos" to rally against rival casinos, all funded by another casino's money? Is that right, Mr. Abramoff? I bet Christian Radio would LOVE to hear about that!

Pravda in the United States

This is such a good piece by Hunter of Daily Kos that I figured I must post mention of it here. Good job, Hunter. It's not like conservatives are arguing their side and liberals are arguing theirs. Conservatives are arguing for media conglomeration and centrally controlled messages, and liberals are simply arguing for objective journalism. Liberals think people are smart enough to decide for themselves, and conservatives think you are an idiot sheep, and you need to follow the leader.

THEY'RE LEGISLATING FROM THE BENCH!!!!

Rush Limbaugh likes to say this about "lib-er-ul" judges when he is short on his heroin supply. But who really likes to strike down congressional laws as a judge? You may be surprised at the results.

We found that justices vary widely in their inclination to strike down Congressional laws. Justice Clarence Thomas, appointed by President George H. W. Bush, was the most inclined, voting to invalidate 65.63 percent of those laws; Justice Stephen Breyer, appointed by President Bill Clinton, was the least, voting to invalidate 28.13 percent. The tally for all the justices appears below. Thomas 65.63 % Kennedy 64.06 % Scalia 56.25 % Rehnquist 46.88 % O’Connor 46.77 % Souter 42.19 % Stevens 39.34 % Ginsburg 39.06 % Breyer 28.13 %
What is that? Is that Thomas, Kennedy and Scalia ruling against existing laws established by congress??? But those are the most CONSERVATIVE members of the Supreme Court? Surely Limbaugh can't be talking out of his gross, nasty ass. Well, it turns out that he is. And fascist fool Samuel Alito threatens to overturn more laws, and continues to stand up for conservative values like allowing 10-year old girls to be strip-searched without a warrant. Such family values! A drug bust is more important than keeping a 10-year old girl's clothes on! It is imperative that Alito not make it to the Supreme Court. There is no way this imbecile will make it through without a Democratic filibuster. NO WAY. Contact your congresspeople and tell them not to let a psychotic occupy the highest court in the land.
